Profile

Starlets Performing Arts centre at Saxon House is a base for those serious about a profession in Performing Arts.

It contains fully equipped Dance, Drama, and Singing studios with tutors who are active performers in the West end and on television. It has also a sister company, Soundmill Studios, who provide a professional, state of the art, recording studio and full tuition in Live Sound, Lighting, and Technical Theatre.

All the Tutors at Starlets Performing Arts and Soundmill Studios are experienced Actors, Singers, Dancers and Engineers who have worked, and still are working, in the West End, in regional theatres and on TV as well as performing with current Pop artists.

We believe that students gain the best techniques and knowledge from fully qualified and experienced tutors, who are who are still active in the business.

Starlets Performing Arts began in Bedfordshire in 2003. Students from there had the privilege of performing in the UK Tour, ’A Night at The Musicals’, as well as a variety of county events, including their own Pantomime for Christmas 2005. Activities such as these reinforce the Starlets belief that there is no better way to train for performance than performing in front of a critical audience!

As well as our own regular productions, we offer tuition for students who wish to enter National Festivals and Competitions. Routines and performances for these will be choreographed by current West End choreographers and performers, specifically for the students.

There is nothing more rewarding for tutors than seeing nurtured and encouraged talent succeeding!

Professional Directors and Agents will be invited to selected ‘Showcase’ performances to give our students exposure to the West end ‘movers and shakers’. We also have our own, London based, casting agency ‘ The Mill’ which selected students will have access to.

Vicki Reid, AISTD, Director of Starlets

Aims

Our aim, at Starlets, is to prepare those who are serious about performing arts for entry into a national performing arts college, or for direct entry into ‘The Business’ through audition.

Vicki Reid (AISTD), (LAMDA)., trained at Performers College ( directed by Brian Rogers ), under the best Tutors in the industry. As a result of this Vicki has spent the last seven years working in the business full time and has now structured Starlets Performing Arts as a method of giving something back. Accordingly she has gathered a corps of some of the most successful performers in the industry to assist her in teaching Dance, Drama and Song to anyone who is serious about joining ‘The Business’.

Students will be trained in Dance according to the ISTD syllabus, in Ballet, Tap, American Tap, Modern, Jazz, Locking, ’Funky’ Freestyle and Contemporary.

Students will be trained in Drama according to LAMDA techniques, in Acting techniques, Voice and Speech, Verse and Prose and Improvisation  and Performing skills.

Students will also be offered singing lessons, covering the full range from Musical Theatre, through Pop, Jazz, Blues and many more….talk to us if you have a particular requirement. Our tutors trained at the Royal Academy of Music.

As part of the overall training that Students receive Starlets will run relevant sessions covering Anatomy and Physiology, this is seen as a vital complement to learning in such a physically demanding environment.

The choice of classes is entirely up to the Student, it is not currently Starlets policy to put Students forward for grade exams (although this can be arranged on a one off basis if required). Instead, students will be assessed at the end of each term by a panel of tutors. Assessments will concentrate on strong techniques and perfecting performing skills.

Entry

All Students from 5yrs old are auditioned for places. As Starlets Performing Arts prepares students to enter the business, we start from day one with the ‘professional’ learning experiences.

Following auditions, students are placed in classes according to their assessed ability. All classes are guided strictly according to ISTD and LAMDA techniques and standards, so if your child trains elsewhere taking ISTD exams, they will be allocated the relevant standard, experience and age group class.

Starlets Performing Arts are happy to take beginners right through to experienced performers. We start mainstream classes at 3 years old and stop when you stop….! Mother and Baby classes are available, see ‘General Classes’.

Professional Performers

If you are currently in the industry, need a technique class or two, want to try out some audition songs for your repertoire, or need some assistance with monologues then we offer private tuition.

Finding professional classes outside London is difficult and keeping up on classes is essential. Our team of West End and TV artists are ready to assist and guide you wherever you need us.

We can deliver the specific attention that you need with our choice of studios and tutors. We can even record you a demo while you’re on site.. Using backing tracks, or West End Musos if you need something a bit more special..

Adults

If you are an adult, novice or seasoned performer, then we run classes for you too. Why should the young get all the help……..?!

We offer adults Tap and Aerobadance. If you are a ‘lapsed’ dancer and have been promising to get back to it one day…, then now is your chance!

The Adults timetable runs separately to the young people’s.

In addition we offer classes to professionals outside the performing arts arena who could use some help with a Board Presentation, challenging interview, or Public Speaking.
